WUYI ROCK TEA(YANCHA)

Wuyi Rock Tea, or Yancha (岩茶), is a distinctive style of oolong tea traditionally produced in the Wuyi Mountains of Fujian Province.

Growing among the rocky landscape of Wuyi, these teas are known for their rich texture, complex aroma, mineral character, and long, lingering finish. The unique character traditionally associated with fine Wuyi Rock Tea is known as Yan Yun (岩韵), or “rock rhyme.”

Origin & Character

The character of Wuyi Rock Tea is closely connected to its growing environment. Differences in location, cultivar, growing conditions, processing, and roasting can produce remarkably different expressions.

Traditional production involves several demanding stages, particularly controlled oxidation and roasting. Skillful processing should develop complexity and depth without overwhelming the natural character of the tea.

Famous Wuyi Rock Teas

Da Hong Pao (大红袍) — the most famous name in Wuyi Rock Tea, known for its rich, balanced, and complex character.

Rou Gui (肉桂) — highly aromatic and distinctive, often showing warm spicy and woody notes.

Shui Xian (水仙) — known for its smooth, full-bodied texture and elegant woody and floral character.

Wuyi Famous Bushes (Wuyi Ming Cong 武夷名丛) — traditional cultivars and selections such as Tie Luo Han, Shui Jin Gui, Bai Ji Guan, and Ban Tian Yao, each with its own distinctive character.
